Everybody can write a story. Everybody can describe. You are simply showing your skills of using a wide range of descriptive techniques, vocabulary choices, paragraphing, sentence types and punctuation to create an engaging narrative or description. This question is your chance to maximise your marks.

Have you reviewed the AOs? AO1 and AO2 account for 24 of the 30 marks for each question on paper 1 (12 marks each).
This means exploring the writer’s craft – how language, structure and form are used to create meaning and express varied ideas. It is useful to know key terminology, but if you cannot remember, simply quote words and/or short phrases, then explore their meanings and effects, giving alternative interpretation within context of story being told.

Paper 1 Section A: Shakespeare
There will be one task on each Shakespeare play. Students will respond to a short, contextualised extract from the play as well as demonstrating their knowledge of the play as a whole.
Each question assesses AO1, AO2, AO3 and AO4.

Starting with this speech, explain how far you think Shakespeare presents Lady Macbeth as a powerful woman.
